Born in Dabneys, VA on October 4, 1921. He was the son of I. Roy Guild,Sr. and Iris Hill Guild. Roy joined the Navy and served in World War II. After the war he pursued a career in sales, working for National Radiator, Eljer Plumbing Fixtures, Smith and Stevenson, and Rogers Sales. He retired from Rogers Sales in 2013.
Roy, better known as “The Razor” to his friends and family because of his sharp wit, loved a good joke, was always telling stories, and was an avid golfer. Being of Scottish descent he had always wanted to go to Scotland and play the Old Course at St. Andrews. He enjoyed his first visit so much, he went back about 20 more times.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dawn Cooper Guild, a sister Nancy, and three brothers, Courtney Guild, James Guild, and Donald Guild.
He is survived by his sister Patsy Robertson; three children, Nancy Rogers (Gary) of Seattle, WA, Roy Guild (Paula) of Camden, SC, and William Guild (Patti) of Mooresville, NC; five grandchildren, G. W. Rogers, Ian Guild, Anna Guild, Ali Guild, and Samantha Guild and two great grandchildren, Owen Rogers and Meghan Rogers.
A service to celebrate Roy’s life will be held on Saturday, February 19 from 3:00 - 5:00 at McEwen Funeral Service-at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC. Dress is casual.
