He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beatrice Mallette Taylor of Charlotte; sons, Howard Rhys Taylor Jr. of Centreville, VA, James Mallette Taylor (Mary Rose) of Charlotte, David Scott Taylor (Marsha) of Cincinnati, and Robert Edward Taylor (Susan) of Charlotte. He is also survived by eight wonderful grandchildren that he loved very much: Chase Taylor, Nick Taylor, Jason Taylor (Rosalie) Christopher Taylor (Katherine), Brian Taylor (Kristin), Kristen Wallace (Jason), Daniel Taylor (Courtenay) and Matthew Taylor; and by two great-grand girls, Rhys and Ellie, who never ceased to bring a sparkle to his eyes.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Emerson Taylor.
Howard was born in Hunt, Texas but raised in Hartford, Connecticut. Drafted at age 18 into the army, he served his country during WWII as a combat engineer in the European theater before returning home to attend and graduate from Williams College.
After college, he married, and the two moved to Charlotte. Professionally, Howard was an insurance executive for The Home Insurance Company for over 30 years.
He was a charter member of Providence Country Club where he was able to further fulfill his love for golf. Howard appreciated and respected his many golf friends from the club. Undeniably, he loved his family first, but golf was a great love as well.
Services are private for the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church of the Holy Comforter Loaves and Fishes program.
