He was born the 3rd of April, 1927 in Fairforest, SC, to the late Carl Thomas Booth and Ethel Turner Booth. Homer served his nation faithfully in the United States Navy during World War II. After returning from serving his nation, he began working for Phillips Petroleum, and later, the Celanese Corporation. After his formal retirement at age 65, he began working as a Funeral Director’s assistant and Ambassador with McEwen Funeral Service and later at Forest Lawn West Funeral Service where he gained many friends before his second retirement after 16 years.
Homer married Lucy Loree Robison of Greer, SC in 1956. Their marriage lasted for 61 years, ending with her passing in 2017. For many years, he and Lucy would travel to many parts of the country square dancing, but while at home, it was his love of gardening that filled his spare time.
Homer was a dedicated member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church where he was active with the Men’s Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was, also, a Shriner and a Mason at the Westgate Lodge.
Homer is survived by his daughter, Rachel B. Davenport and her husband, Scott; two grandsons, Christopher Davenport and Jonathan Davenport; and three great grandchildren, Jayden, Everley and Layla.
The Davenport family will greet friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 2nd at Forest Lawn West Funeral Service. A celebration of his life will follow at 2:00 pm in the Paul Helton Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
