Herbert Clyde Peek Sr.

Herbert Clyde Peek, Sr. age 95 of Charlotte died September 5, 2014. He was born in Buncombe County, son of the late Anthony Wayne and Rose Hampton Peek. In addition to his father and mother he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Bill and wife, Blanche and Paul and wife, Jeanne. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anne Garrison Peek, son, Herbert Clyde Peek, Jr. and wife Wakako and his granddaughter, Sara and niece Rosemary Peek. He served in the Army during WWII in North Africa, Italy and Sicily. He was a basketball coach at Etowah High School, all four sports at Mars Hill High School, football and baseball at West Mecklenburg High School. He was a longtime member of Mulberry Baptist Church and member of the West Mecklenburg Hall of Fame, a graduate of Mars Hill College, Western Carolina University, and University of Tennessee at Knoxville. A service to celebrate his life will be at 3:00PM Sunday, September 7th at Mulberry Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Larry Burns, Dr. David Luther and Reverend Rosemary Peek.
