A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Sharon Presbyterian Church and inurnment with full military honors will follow at the church columbarium.
Mr. Taylor was born August 29, 1924 in Libertyville, IL, son of the late Harry A. Taylor, Sr. and Mildred Gee Taylor. He attended the Univ. of Wisconsin and IL Institute of Technology in Chicago and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Mr. Taylor was a retired Major with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers having served from 1943-1969, which included World War II, the Korean War and Viet Nam. Other tours of peaceful duty included assignments in the U.S., Asia, India, South Pacific, Iran and Europe. Major Taylor was a recipient of the Bronze Star.
After retirement he worked for the City of Charlotte and as a broker for used machinery.
He was an active member of Carolina Golf Club since 1974 and an honorary member since 2009. He was also a long-time member of Sharon Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Audrey Wagner Taylor; two daughters, Patricia Taylor Williams and husband Michael of Southern Pines; Diane Taylor Belk and husband Gary of Charlotte; 6 grandchildren: Melissa Williams McGee (Marshall), Lauren Williams Perry (Steve), Timothy Williams, Bryan Belk, Jason Belk, and Caitlyn Belk; two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Janet Taylor Aemisegger of Libertyville, IL.
Following the service the family will receive friends in the parlor of the Charles Little Building.
