Born April 6, 1930 in Hollister, NC, Mr. Patterson was a son of the late Henry Clyde Patterson and Lula Belle Lee Patterson. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and continued his love for airplanes throughout his life as an employee of Eastern Airlines for 39 years and also through his hobby of restoring old planes. Mr. Patterson was a recipient of the prestigious Charles Taylor Aviation Maintenance Award. He was also employed by UPS for 7 years.
Mr. Patterson was a faithful member of Christ Presbyterian Church where he served in many capacities. He was also an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and served as a Scout Leader. Mr. Patterson will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his unconditional kindness and for “always being busy”.
He is survived by three children, Melody Hinson (Ron), Wendell Patterson and Angela Mack (Dan); and three grandchildren, Christopher Hinson, Michael Hinson and Miranda Mack.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean “Patsy” Patterson, in 2009 and a son, Jerry Patterson, in 2014.
A service to celebrate Mr. Patterson’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 31st at Christ Presbyterian Church. His family will receive friends at the church following the service. Interment with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
