Mr. Helms. 77 of Charlotte passed away on March 22, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center. He was born September 4, 1936 to Harold and Lorene Helms. Mr. Helms was a member of Eastway Baptist Church and worked as a mail carrier for 35 years for the U. S. Post Office. The family will receive friends from 6:30 TO 8:00 P. M. Tuesday at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Road Charlotte, NC 28212. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday March 26 2014 at Eastway Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum. Gene is survived by his dearest wife of 60 years, Barbara Helms, son, Gene Jr. and his wife Susan, son Chris, daughter Sharon Morgan, three granddaughters, Misty, Jennifer and Samantha and five great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Eastway Baptist Church, 2749 Eastway Drive, Charlotte, NC 28205.
