She was born on November 30, 1947 in Wilson, NC to Hazel Braswell Carter and Roy Lee Carter.
Gwyn was a 1966 graduate of West Mecklenburg High School and married her high school sweetheart, Jackie, in August 1966. She was a nurturing and loving mother to their six children. Jack and Gwyn owned and operated The Flower Cart Florist for over 20 years.
Gwyn was preceded in death by her father, Roy Lee Carter; mother, Hazel Braswell Carter; husband, Edward Jackson “Jack” Bowers Jr.; brother-in-law, Robert Steven Bowers; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Wilkinson Bowers.
She is survived by her dearly loved mother-in-law, Jean Stewart Bowers Johnston; six children, Amie Bowers Edwards, Bradley Jackson Bowers, Ashley Bowers Crane and husband, Jason, Tanner Lee Bowers and wife, Kendal, Andrew Garrett Bowers and wife, Megan, and Abby Bowers John and husband, Travis; sisters, Kathryn Carter Howie and husband, Danny, and Georgette Carter Lancaster; brother, Tony Lee Carter and wife, Lori; and sister-in-law, Myra Smith. She was also a precious and caring grandmother, and is survived by 14 grandchildren, with number 15 due in September 2023, and eight great-grandchildren. Gwyn also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends whom she loved dearly.
A celebration of Gwyn’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Harvest Church in Charlotte, where Gwyn was a member, with Pastor Tom Chidester officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30pm until 2:00pm at the church.
The burial will conclude the services at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Charlotte.
