Greg was the son of the late Jerry B. Merritt and the late Diane M. Shrader. Greg attended South Mecklenburg High School for 1 year and graduated from Garinger High School. Greg held various jobs over the years enjoying long haul truck driving especially out west in his younger years. He worked in security for 10 years followed by his final job with Interplastic Inc., where he often spoke fondly of his work brothers and the jokes between them during their 12-hour shifts.
Greg attended Forest Hill Church for several years and loved volunteering with the Production team for weekly services. He was an avid Panthers and UNC Tarheels fan. Those that knew Greg, rarely saw him without something on his head whether it was reading glasses, sunglasses or a hat.
Greg accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 2014. He had his struggles physically, but he held tightly to the promise that Jesus loved him dearly and would never abandon him.
He is survived by his little sis, Felicia Pierce (Scott) of Charlotte; stepbrothers, John Shrader (Brenda) of Florida, Fred Shrader (Teresa) of NC, Larry Shrader of Ohio; nephews, Brent Boatwright (Daisy) of Charleston, SC, Seth Pierce (Cameron) of Cary, NC; nieces, Rebecca Pierce of Charlotte and McKenzi Schuh (Jordan) of Greensboro, NC; step-nephew Brandon Pierce of NC; and great nephew, Barnabas and great nieces, Vesper, Radiance and Meadow.
