Gloria Stackhouse White passed away peacefully at her home at the Stewart Health Center, The Cypress of Charlotte, on Friday, December 17th, 2021 surrounded by her family after a brief illness. Born to Isabelle and William Graham in Brooklyn, NY on March 31, 1925, Gloria graduated from Hofstra College where she earned her business degree and the New York Institute of Technology earning her Certificate in Interior Design - a passion of hers, evident in her beautiful homes and her impeccable personal style.
She was ahead of her time, a savvy and dedicated professional woman, Gloria was the Corporate Director of Community Relations for the New York Racing Association. She was also appointed as the U.S. Representative on the United Nations Committee for International Standardization of Business Procedures.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Burris (Bud) Stackhouse; her second husband, Donald (Don) K. White; and her sister, Vivian Clare Sullivan. Gloria and Bud planned their dream retirement from New York to Kiawah Island, SC when he passed away. It was at Kiawah, she met the second “Love of Her Life” as she described Don. They fell in love during the evacuation off the island during Hurricane Hugo. Don and Gloria married in 1990 at Kiawah, where he was an avid golfer. Gloria did her part hosting the Ryder Cup by providing uniform maintenance to the participating golfers.
The couple eventually moved to The Cypress of Charlotte where they enjoyed an active social life, the Arts and the beautiful Cypress campus. She wrote several articles that were published in the Cypress resident newsletter.
Gloria was an active parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she served as a lector.
Gloria is survived by her sister, Madeline Parsons of Winston-Salem, NC; three step-children: Donald K. White, Jr. of New York, Nancy E. White of Colorado and Steven W. White (Barbara) of Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews – all who describe her as “our glamorous and generous aunt”.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021 at 1:30 pm in the Chapel at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
