Gerard (Jerry) Andrew Sullivan entered eternal life at his home in Charlotte, NC suddenly after a brief illness. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Brenda Ann (Davis) Sullivan, his three children, Andrew Gerard Sullivan (Gail Bennett), Daniel Francis Sullivan (Beth Caligiuri) and Christine Sullivan McGuirt (Brad McGuirt). A loving Grandfather to his four grandchildren: Sophia Anne Sullivan, Kate Sullivan McGuirt, Aidan Davis Sullivan and Brady Andrew McGuirt, Gramp was always finding the best/unique gifts for birthdays and Christmas. In addition, Jerry is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and longtime friends who will miss him greatly.
Jerry was born on May 3, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to Frank and Katherine Sullivan. Jerry was raised with his brother Frank Sullivan who preceded him in death. Jerry attended Brooklyn Prep and graduated from Fordham University where he joined ROTC. Upon graduating, he entered the US Army as an officer where he fought in the Vietnam War and rose in rank to Captain. After his tour, he was honorably discharged. Following in his brother’s footsteps, he became a FBI agent and worked for the bureau for 28 years.
Jerry and Brenda moved to Charlotte in 1975 and raised their children in Charlotte. They were parishioners of Saint Patrick Catholic Church and later Saint John Neuman where they both donated time and made lots of friends. Jerry was an avid sports fan following his hometown teams of the NY Yankees and NY Giants season after season. Jerry and Brenda were also members at Pine Lake Country Club for many years where their love of tennis were passed onto their three children. They enjoyed traveling with family to Cherry Grove, SC several times a year, gardening, volunteering, solving brain-teasers, working out and reading. They also adopted two rescue golden retrievers, Jake being his favorite and two mixed breed dogs who gave him much love and joy in his retirement. His love, generosity, laughter, wit, caring, compassion, leadership and sacrifices will be missed beyond measure by all who had the joy of knowing him.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church located at 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC at 11am on Thursday, June 29, 2023. The family will receive family and friends at 10:00am. Following the mass, a celebration of life will take place at Legion Brewery (5610 Carnegie Blvd.).
