Dr. Gerard Julien Remé was born in Les Cayes, Haiti, on August 7, 1934, and passed away in Charlotte, North Carolina, on October 4, 2022. He was the first born son of Julien Remé and Lucrece Beauduy Remé. He completed primary school there and moved to Port-au-Prince for secondary school. He graduated from medical school there in 1959. Gerard married Jeanette Antoine on December 28, 1961. They later moved to Montreal, Canada, to complete their first residency program, where their first child, Chantal, was born. The family later moved to Chicago, Illinois, for their second residency program, where their second child, Peggy, was born.
Dr. Remé established his successful medical practice in obstetrics and gynecology in Philadelphia, PA. There, his only son Gerard was born. In addition to practicing and teaching at Temple University Health Systems, he had two offices in Philadelphia, delivering children of diverse ethnicities and generations. He practiced long enough to deliver children of mothers he had brought into this world.
Gerard loved to travel, enjoying visits to his home in the Pocono mountains and to his beach house in Les Cayes, Haiti. He loved to work, and often relaxed by watching sports and CNN News.
Gerard was married to Jeanette for 61 years. He will be remembered as a caring husband and loving father to Chantal, Peggy and Jerry. He will be missed by his sister Jeanine Etienne (husband Jacques and children Perry and Daphne), brother Georges Remé (wife Virginia and son George), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and his large contingent of family members (Remé, Laplanche, Roy, Graham, Larrieux, Jean Francois, Piquion, and Antoine) and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerard’s memory can be sent to Special Olympics (www.specialolympics.org) or Kinbit Pou Potapiman (www.portapiment.com).
