George van Lee

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Van Lee, age 48, a beloved resident of Charlotte, who departed from this world on October 26, 2023, in the comfort of his home. George was born on October 13, 1975, to his loving parents, Lam and Nhung Lee, in Petersburg, Virginia.

George's educational journey led him to Garinger High School, where he cultivated his early friendships and laid the foundation for a life filled with adventure and joy. He later spent time at CPCC and in Chapel Hill, further expanding his network of friends, broadening his horizons, and gaining valuable life experiences.

However, it was in his career that George truly left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him. He pursued a successful path in the service industry, and in his own words said “I live to serve.” In particular, he dedicated himself to providing exceptional dining experiences and making lasting connections with patrons and colleagues in the restaurant industry. He worked very hard and was proud of his accomplishments. His warmth and charisma touched the hearts of many.

Beyond his professional pursuits, George found immense joy in his hobbies. He had an adventurous spirit and was passionate about guns and motorcycles, living life in the fast lane and embracing every thrill along the way. His zest for life was contagious, and he loved nothing more than sharing these passions with his family and friends.

What set George apart was his unwavering sense of humor, his loyalty, and his family values. He had a natural ability to light up a room with his laughter, and his witty anecdotes and jokes could bring a smile to anyone's face. His humor was a reflection of the warmth and kindness that defined his character. George never hesitated to help anyone in need and was one of the most generous people around. He always made everyone feel welcomed, loved and appreciated.

George Van Lee lived his life to the fullest and leaves behind a legacy of laughter, friendship, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May George's memory be a source of inspiration and joy, forever etched in our hearts.

He is survived by his father Lam Lee, mother Nhung Lee and brothers Dennis and Robert Lee. He was also beloved uncle to two precious nephews who will always remember him as their cool, fun-loving and very generous Uncle George.

Visitation for George will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His Buddhist funeral service will occur on Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The visitation and Buddhist funeral service will both be held at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
