The son of George Earl Garrett Sr. and Mary Dona Garrett, he is survived by his sister Mary Dozier, his sons Robbie Garrett Hosch, Kristopher Garrett, and Daniel Garrett, his daughters Lori Garrett and Sarah Garrett, and his grandson Griffin Garrett.
Born in Tallahassee FL, George made a life in Charlotte NC beginning in 1979, and celebrated thirty-five years married to his wife, Barbara, who preceded him in death in 2016.
George made a living in heating and cooling, but was considered a handyman capable of "fixing anything from a broken heart to the crack of dawn".
A husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend, and neighbor, George leaves in his wake a legacy of love. For as often as George might say, "I know a guy", he was himself the 'guy' others knew they could call and rely on. He remained humble in his life, often advising people to "pay no attention to the man behind the beard."
In his free time, George could be found treasure hunting at pawn shops, maintaining his gun and tool collections, tinkering with his cars, or, most likely, helping his family, friends, and neighbors.
Every life he touched, was left happier and more full, his own kindness, generosity, and charisma seemed never ending. George is dearly loved by those he leaves behind, who collectively can not express in words the impact he had on our lives or how much he will be missed.
The family will greet friends at a visitation starting at noon on Monday, May 23, 2022 followed by a 1pm funeral service at McEwen Funeral Service located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte. Burial immediately following at Sharon Memorial Park.
