George was born in York, SC on September 9, 1938, the second of four children, to Scott and Virgie Brown. He left home to join the Navy, and served as a radioman on the U.S.S. Saratoga. On May 7, 1961, he married the love of his life, Linda Rose Chapman, and they were together for over 60 years.
George opened his own business in 1974, where he worked in finances for over 43 years. His wife, son, and daughter all worked with him in the family-owned business. He was known for his intense work ethic, and his fairness to his employees.
His interests included golf, traveling to the mountains and to the beach, working in his yard, watching his Crimson Tide play football, and spending time with his family. George was known for his witty humor, love of bluegrass music, and dancing with his wife. Friends, neighbors, and family will remember him for his high character, and fierce loyalty.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his twin daughters, Teresa and her husband Mike; Traci and her husband Doug; daughter-in-law, Renee Brown; grandchildren, Kristen, Kyle, Lauren and her husband Wesley, and Michael; great-grandchildren Baylee, and Bria; and sister, Joan Hancock, as well as eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bill Brown, his sister, Evelyn Brown, and his beloved son, George Robert Brown, Jr., who passed away five years ago from his own battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Calvary Church Chapel, 5801 Pineville-Matthews Road in Charlotte. A military graveside service will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill, SC.
