Genevieve Marie Farley St. Louis (the II), 71, ascended to heaven on May 3, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Geni, as her friends and family called her, was born on March 1st, 1946 in Milwaukee, WI to James and Genevieve (the I) (Kirsten) Farley. One of four sisters and two brothers, Genevieve learned to quickly clean the dishes after dinner so she could run out and socialize. Genevieve met the love of her life, Thomas St. Louis at the Pig & Whistle. When Tom went to college at the University of Wisconsin Madison, Genevieve worked at Allstate Insurance. She took the bus to visit Tom every weekend and brought him her hard earned money for his college education (aka: beer money). They married in 1968 and moved from Milwaukee to Massachusetts, eventually settling at their longtime family home in West Newton. They raised three children, Aimee, Genevieve (the III), and Robert. The family enjoyed thousands of loving meals, laughter filled weekends, as well as wonderful summers together on Ridgevale Beach in Chatham, MA. Genevieve had a long career in retail sales starting at Grover Cronin in Waltham, MA and many of Macy’s Inc. department stores, including Filenes and Hecht’s. The family celebrated her well-deserved retirement in 2008. After moving to Charlotte in 1999, Genevieve fell in love with the South. They moved to Mount Holly, NC when Tom retired, where they enjoyed fried turkey, seafood Sunday, wine, ‘the barn’, and southern living.
Genevieve is survived by her husband; her children; her sons–in-law Bobby and AJ; and daughter-in-law Kelly. She is survived by her very adoring grandchildren: Emma, Jillie, Bo, Wilson, Evie (Genevieve the IV), and Dryden. Further, she is survived by her sisters Joanie Bingman (Clyde), Nancy Smith, her brothers James Farley (Diane) and Phil Farley (Margaret). She was predeceased by her sister Kathy Kelling and brothers-in-law David Kelling and Bert Smith.
Genevieve was famous for many things, including her own sayings such as “Schmidt the Plumber” and “Cham-Fa-Si -Laye”. Genevieve’s commitment to her husband, her children, to fun and laughter, having a song for every occasion, to warmth and compassion are without compare.
A brief service will be held at 6 pm Friday, May 12th, 2017 at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home in Charlotte, followed by a celebration of Genevieve's life until 8 pm. Please wear bright colors to celebrate her ability to light up a room. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Levine Cancer Institute at the Carolina HealthCare Foundation.
