Gary Lester Wright

Born May 16, 1955 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Gary was the son of the late Lester J. Wright and Marion Rivers Wright.

He retired from the City of Charlotte after 35 years of service in 2014. He also worked as security for Show Pros at the Charlotte Coliseum. He loved working the Hornets games and especially the ACC basketball tournaments.

Gary just retired in December 2023 after seven years as a construction inspector with the LaBella company.

He was a member of Forest Hills Church, and especially enjoyed fellowship and Bible study with his friends in his Life Group.

Gary loved cooking, eating, and serving barbeque. He had a lifelong dream of owning a BBQ restaurant and enjoyed catering events for friends.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Nothing brought him more joy than being with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Sharlene Wright of Pineville, NC; two sons, Brandon Wright (Victoria) of Kannapolis, NC, and Jason Wright (Rachael) of Tujunga, California; four grandchildren, Aiden, Gilmore, Elvis, and Mars; three brothers, Barry Wright, Chris Wright (Nancy), and Jack Wright (Sherry) all of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Wright and a sister, Cammie Wright.

A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2024 at McEwen Funeral Service – Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road. The family will receive friends following the service.
