Frederick Gerald Tate, 73, of Manassas, Virginia, passed away on March 28, 2013 in Marietta, Georgia.
Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013 at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
Funeral service will be held at Olivet Baptist Church, 7893 Monbo Road, Catawba, NC 28609, on April 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Matt Rummage officiating. Burial will follow at Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery.
Fred was born in Arlington, VA on March 22nd 1940. Fred attended W&L High School and The University of Mississippi. Early in his career Fred worked for Marriot Corporation, AMTRAK and moved on to The Department of Education where he was Presidential Appointee for Reagan and George Bush as the Director of the Office of Civil Rights.
Fred is preceded in death by his sister Marilyn Boland, his Father Frederick W. Tate, Mother Luvinia Tate and his best friend Michael O’Donnell
Fred is survived by his wife Sarah Tate, sons John Fred and Mac Tate, daughters Annie Tate, Stephanie Ferguson and Suzanne Bearden. Grandchildren Lauren, Joe, Jake, Jarred and Johnny Tate, Katie and Jackson Chaney, Drake and McLain Ferguson, William Bearden and Great grandson Noah Chaney. Brother Steve Tate, nieces and nephews Shannon Robinson, Joe Boland, Barry Boland and Kelly Fink.
