Fred A. Griffith, Jr., age 85, passed away on May 14, 2014 at Royal Park Rehab & Health Center in Matthews. A native of Charlotte, he was born on February 2, 1929 to the late Fred A. Griffith, Sr. and Estelle Summerville Griffith. Fred was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War and retired from Mecklenburg County government after many years of service. He was lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church where he served many years as an Elder and Sunday School teacher.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, May 17th at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Pederson of Matthews Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30PM to 2:00PM prior to the celebration of life. A reception with refreshments will follow the service.
Fred is survived by his wife of sixty one years, Joyce Motte Griffith; two daughters, Freida Griffith, of Pembroke Pines, FL, Kamilla Nuyen (Jami), of Matthews; three grandchildren, Anne Watts (Raymond), of Fort Lawn, SC, Fred Nuyen (Ashley), Jack Nicholas Nuyen (Michelle) and one great-grandson, Donalt Nuyen, all of Charlotte.
