Fred S. Farmer, 87, died peacefully on October 12, 2022 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home - Salisbury. He was born on October 2, 1935, in Bolt, West Virginia, the son of Avery and Eula Mae (Needham) Farmer.
Fred graduated from Riverdale High School, class of 1955. Following high school, he served with the United States Airforce stationed in Homestead, Florida. After his initial tour of service, he joined the North Carolina Air National Guard on December 16, 1975, and served until his retirement, completing over 20 years of faithful and dedicated service.
While Fred was stationed in Homestead, Florida, he married his sweetheart Nancy and they settled in Charlotte, N.C. Once settled in Charlotte, Fred started working as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service, where he retired after over thirty years of service. They celebrated 63 years of marriage in June. Fred was a charter member of the Calvary Church of the Nazarene. He served faithfully for many years. Friends and family eagerly awaited Fred's annual Christmas card the Friday after Thanksgiving. He was determined to be the first to get his cards mailed.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers Jim and Tom, and a sister Lena.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; daughter Teresa Farmer of Marietta, Ga.; Son, Fred W. Farmer (Billy) and his wife, Tonya of Salisbury, N.C.; five grandsons, Michael Farmer and his wife, Megan of Midland, N.C.; Quinton Farmer of Huntersville, N.C.; Nevin Alexander of Charlotte, N.C.; Mikey Alexander Jr. of Charlotte, N.C; and Kristopher Alexander of Charlotte, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren Violet and Wyatt; and a niece and two nephews.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm before the service.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm at McEwen's Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd., on Monday, October 17, 2022. Burial to follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
