Mr. Forbes, 74, of Charlotte, NC died at Presbyterian Hospital on June 23, 2011 following a short, courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on September 21, 1936 in Kingsport, TN, the son of the late Harvey Forbes and Virginia Smith Pooler.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; children, Frank Forbes, Jr. and Anne Marie Forbes; granddaughter Alicia Forbes and great-granddaughter Alexa Baxter; a sister, Carol Bellhouse. He is also survived by many relatives in TN, VA and CA including nieces and nephews, Patricia, David, Mike, Cheryl and Debbie; and seven grandnieces and nephews; his life-long friend, Gilbert Galera and many dear friends he regarded as family.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Miller.
Frank had a long and distinguished career as a lawyer and educator; BA, U. Hawaii, 1959; JD, U Iowa, 1963; Law clk. Hawaii Supreme Court, 1963; member faculty U Nebr. Coll. Bus. Administration, Omaha, prof. law, 1965-2002; chmn. Dept law and society, 1970-1997, Peter Kiewit disting prof law, 1987-93; private practice, 1964-2011. Author: Going Into Business in Nebraska: The Legal Aspects, 1983 Instructor’s Resource Guide-Business in Nebraska 1983-88, Starting and Operating a Business in Nebraska, 1995, Debtors and Creditors Rights, 1988, Legal Environment of Telemarketing, 1991; Recipient Real Dean award U Hawaii, 1959; Great Teacher Award U NE, 1978, 1981, Chancellor’s medal U NE, 1977, Outstanding Achievement award U Nebraska College Business Administration 1983, 84, 85, 87, 88. Instrumental in passing the leash law in Nebraska and creating the Small Claims Court in Nebraska. Frank served in many capacities at St. James Catholic Church and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Omaha.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Rd., Charlotte with the Reverend Frank O’Rourke, Celebrant. Inurnment in the Church columbarium will follow. The family will receive friends from 6-6:45 p.m. prior to Mass. A reception in the Fellowship Hall will immediately follow.
There will be a Memorial Mass in Omaha, NE later this summer. A notice will be posted.
