Frances Herring Shipmen of Charlotte, NC, died on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital. She was born November 5, 1926 in Dillon, SC, the daughter of the late Annie Mae Tolar and Walter Lee Herring, Sr.
Frances was educated in Greensboro, NC and was a graduate of McClung's Business College. She went on to serve in the U.S. Army in World War II. Frances was married to the late Lewis Franklin Shipman.
She was an elegant Southern lady, a woman of beauty, strength, determination, and above all, her great passion for the opera and classical music. Frances loved all animals. She was a kind, intelligent and spiritual person. A retired successful business woman, Frances was the author of her first book, "At Midnight I Cried". At the time of her death, she was writing her second novel, "Dove's Nest".
Frances was a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church, a past member of Senior Scholars, and the Charlotte Writers Club.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews throughout Louisiana and Greensboro. In addition to her parents and husband, Frances is preceded in death by a sister, Betty Anne Wells, and brothers, Marion Kenneth Herring and Walter Lee Herring, Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, May 28th at Sharon Memorial Park.
