Frances Armstrong Padgett

Born February 7, 1921, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Craig Armstrong and John Thomas Armstrong. She was educated at Sacred Heart College in Belmont with an Associate Degree and furthered her education at Queens College in Charlotte. Her main occupation was to be a wife and mother of six children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight H. Padgett, Sr., and three of her children: Nancy Elizabeth Padgett, Dwight H. Padgett, Jr. and Phillip C. Padgett. She was a widow for forty-nine years and raised her children mainly by herself with the help of God.

Frances was known in the Cotswold area as “the flower lady” because gardening was one of her main joys. Her garden was wild and diverse with a stunning beauty. Many cars would stop or slow down to view its glory. It was in her garden that she prayed and spoke with her Lord. Her children were convinced that He gave her plants she never planted because they spontaneously sprang up.

A superb mother – she excelled in all mothering skills: cooking, sewing, education and instilling spiritual respect and honor to the Lord. She brought light to many and while most people stored treasures on this earth, she stored her treasures in heaven. She was a lady – a rare and precious one – whom we will always miss.

Frances is survived by her daughters, Judith Elaine Padgett, Rebecca Susan Padgett and Angela Padgett Frey; her son-in-law, Jerry Robert Frey; her grandson, Ethan Craig Padgett; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Marie Padgett; as well as great-grandchildren, Mariah Lynn Padgett, Kenneth Lamar Bruin and Kaleah Marie Bruin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 28 in Harry & Bryant’s “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Road. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
