Mrs. McLaughlin was born October 12, 1910 in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Her parents were the late Edwin Lee Ware and Margaret Ann Mauney Ware of Kings Mountain. She attended Salem College, class of 1932 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, majoring in music. She was an accomplished pianist, artist, and community volunteer. She and her husband traveled extensively overseas.
Frances McLaughlin was a long-time active member of Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and previously was a member of Back Creek ARP Church in Newell, NC. Renowned as a Biblical scholar, she taught Sunday school classes for many years at Sardis Presbyterian Church and was the recipient of the Presbyterian Women-of-the-Church Award from the National Office of the Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hoyt McLaughlin of Matthews, North Carolina, founder and CEO of Carolina Machinery Company; her brother, Frederick Anderson Ware, Sr. of Augusta, Georgia; a nephew, Russell Dwight McLaughlin, Jr. of Newell, NC; and a great-niece, Sandra McLaughlin Crosby of Newell, NC. Mrs. McLaughlin is survived by her nephews, Frederick A. Ware, Jr. of Valdosta, GA and H. Cobb Ware of Tuscaloosa, AL. Other surviving relatives are great-nephews, Frederick A. Ware, III of Tallahassee, FL, H. Cobb Ware, Jr. of Jackson, MS, John Mark Ware of Birmingham, AL and Ben D. McLaughlin of Norwood, NC. Surviving great-nieces are Laura Frances Ware Michael of Valdosta, GA, Runa H. Ware of Atlanta, GA, Elisabeth Ware King of Tuscaloosa, AL, Helen Ware Lovell of Birmingham, AL, Denise McLaughlin Ball of Charlotte, NC, Jewell McLaughlin Owens of Charlotte, NC and Joy McLaughlin Mauldin of Charlotte, NC.
A service by the graveside will be held at Sardis Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Back Creek ARP Church, or Sardis Presbyterian Church.
