Born July 5, 1937 in Charlotte, Ms. Lawing was a daughter of the late Baxter L. Lawing and Ona Morgan Lawing. She graduated from Charlotte Central High School in 1955 and later from Kings Business College. For 37 years, she was employed with Celanese Corporation where she was an executive secretary.
Ms. Lawing’s life was devoted to her family, first in the care of her elderly mother until her mother’s passing. Her love for family then became focused on her brother and sisters and their children. Known as the family historian, she is remembered for her ever-present camera, taking family photos and putting together scrapbooks. Her family will also cherish many memories of Christmas brunch at Poochey’s. Ms. Lawing was also very fond of her cats and a special dog named Randolph.
Ms. Lawing’s family includes her brother, Earl Lawing and his wife Madeline; her sister, Catherine Marsh; nieces, Sylvia Lynn Cauble, Danielle Walters (John), Michelle Dowdey (Paul), Tiffany Anselment (Stephanie Kornegay), Tracey Ellis (Rob), and Shannon Paylor (Tom); and nephew, Scott Marsh.
Also surviving are great nieces and nephews, Angela Small (Trey), Natalie Childress, C. J. Walters, Allison Dowdey, Clay Dowdey, Tanner Dowdey, Noah Ellis, Jack Paylor, Ben Paylor, Davis Paylor and Caroline Paylor.
A sister, Myrtle Lawing Anselment, a niece, Stephanie Marsh, and a great-niece, Heather Michelle Elmore, preceded her in death.
A service to celebrate Ms. Lawing’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 11th at Amity Presbyterian Church. Her family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center, 242 S. Colonial Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204, or to the charity of your choice.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Essie Lanier and Babby Barner for the loving care they provided Poochey during her illness.
