Born September 8, 1926 in Charlotte, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Alexander Williams and Fancie Lomax Williams. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Black was predeceased by her husband, Julian Rigler Black, and her brother, Jack Williams. Following graduation from Central High School in 1943, she furthered her education at Queens College. Mrs. Black loved playing bridge and spending time at the family beach house at Garden City Beach, SC. She was a member of Dilworth United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Terry Thompson and her husband Robert of Charlotte; her son, Ken Black and his wife Janet of Raleigh; and her grandchildren, Lisa Jenkins and husband John, Jeff Thompson and wife Amy, Doug Black and wife Megan, and Kevin Black and wife Megan; as well as four great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Black’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 4th at Harry & Bryant’s Chapel in the Oaks, 500 Providence Road. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
Mrs. Black’s family expresses deep gratitude to the nursing staff of the Stewart Health Center and the many caregivers who have helped throughout the years, especially Val Dzhanumova.
