Forrest Cooper Freeman, Jr., 75, of Charlotte, passed into eternity on February 25, 2012. Born on January 8, 1937 to Forrest Cooper, Sr. and Gertrude Huffstetler Freeman, he was the only one of his brothers born on the Freeman family property in Steele Creek. Forrest served his country in the United States Marine Corps in the mid-1950’s. His saying was always, “Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome.” Forrest worked for Lance, Inc. for 44 years. He was a lifelong member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church serving as a Deacon and chair of Deacons, Youth Advisor, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent as well as chairing several committees. Forrest was a man of many hobbies; he loved NASCAR, the Atlanta Braves and ‘his’ Auburn Tigers (“War Eagle”). Forrest loved to cut grass; he loved old cowboy movies and old movies; and most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Forrest is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jo Ann McGee Freeman; son, F. Cooper Freeman, III (Linda); daughter, Crystal Johnson (Chris); grandsons; F. Cooper, IV, Price (Ena Jane), Barrett and Cameron; granddaughter, Caroline; an expected great-grandson, Peyton Lee; brother, Norman C. Freeman (Doris); Great-Uncle, Roy Freeman and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 2:00pm at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 7407 Steele Creek Road, Charlotte, 28217 with Reverend Dr. Jeff Pinkston and Reverend Valerie Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery followed by a visitation.
