Fern Yelton Kisner

She was born October 1, 1923 in Spindale, NC to Vernon W. Yelton and Nelle Toms Yelton and was the last survivor of seven children.

Fern served in the U.S. Navy working at the Navy Department in Washington, DC and was later employed at the Federal Reserve Bank. She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School classes for handicapped children and also volunteered for Crisis Assistance Ministries for eight years.

In addition to her love for her church and her family, Fern is remembered as an avid gardener who was proclaimed as everyone’s hero for continuing her yard work until a few months ago. She was always smiling.

Her family includes her children, James Kisner (Brenda), Steven Kisner (Christy) and Susan K. Allen; seven grandchildren, Kyle Kisner, Jennifer Militello, Kris Kisner, Kevin Kisner, Stephanie Street, Justin Allen and Garrett Allen; as well as 16 great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Babs.

Fern was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Archie J. Kisner.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 24th at Christ Presbyterian Church. Her family will receive friends at the church following the service. Private interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
