Etta Faith (Fay) Gottlieb Sinkoe, born March 17, 1933, passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on November 17, 2017. Fay was dedicated to her education, attending junior college at Fairfax Hall in Virginia and continued studies at Queens College of Charlotte. At Queens, Fay received her Bachelors of Science Degree and taught science. During her time at Queens she married the love of her life, Gerald Preston Sinkoe. Gerald and Fay were married at Temple Israel on October 10, 1954. Fay was a life member of Temple Israel and a Life member of Hadassah.
A natural caregiver, Fay was one of the founding members of Temple Israel’s Rachel’s House, a women’s shelter. Along with her love of the outdoors, gardening, birds, and most of all her dogs, Fay’s greatest joy was the family she and Gerald created. Mother to Randy Sinkoe obm, (Marci); Brenda Moore (Eric obm), Beverly Grey (Michael), Louis Sinkoe (Kevin Levine). Grandmother to Drew and Jessica Grey, Lynnsey Chase (Corey), and Eva Moore. She considered her children and grandchildren to be her greatest accomplishment.
She was surrounded by her second family of caregivers who graciously made sure she could comfortably remain at home. They include, Caregivers of Fifth Care and Companion, Camille Chaplin, Giselle Hernandez, Shawan Ramble, Tamkia Leaks, Betsy King, Millicent Morris, and Princess Nwafor, Hospice Care of Charlotte, Anna Carroll and Katie Diggers.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 11:45 am at Temple Israel at 4901 Providence Road, with interment at The Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care of Charlotte and Jewish Family Services.
