She was born the 7th of April, 1930 in the farming town of Elloree, SC, one of nine children to the late Julius Charles Bair and Burness Lorena Hungerpillar. Losing her mother at a young age, Fay worked on the farm picking cotton and other crops. At the age of 16 she moved to Charlotte, NC with her sister Frances, where she met her soon to be husband, Thomas Daniel Boone. The running joke was that Daniel Boone caught a “Bair” and married her.
A lady of faith, Fay always prayed her home would be within a walking distance of a good church. Her prayer was answered and she was blessed that her new home was right beside Emmanuel Baptist Church.
The love in her life was God and her family, especially her six children and her grandchildren. She loved being outdoors and telling stories of her farm life and riding horses to and from town.
She is survived by her children: Matthew James Boone, Mark Eckerd Boone and his wife, Donna; Daniel Thomas Boone and his wife, Rose and a daughter-in-law, Lana Boone; a brother, David Valentine Bair and wife, Christine and a sister, Judy Russ and her husband, Jim; 12 grandchildren: David Foster, Herb Foster, Jessica Boone, Chad Boone Harrington, Krystle Boone, Leah Boone, Angela Boone Polly, Stephen Matthew Boone, Kevin Dean Boone, Tamara Skie Boone, Lacie Daniel Boone and Michelle Boone.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Daniel Boone; six sisters: Frances Torgerson, Eliza Bumgardner, Marie Murphy, Bunny Turner, Grace Stallings, Sybil Henkel and a brother, Charles Bair; two sons: Donald Jerry Boone and Johnny Larkin Boone, one daughter, Cynthia Faye Boone and a grandson, Ian Boone.
The Boone family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Sunday, the 21st of January, 2024 in the Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Service. The Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM and she will be laid to rest next to her husband at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
