Laudie Colon McLaurin, Jr. 87, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday morning, November 25, 2020. He was survived by his wife of 68 years, Eunice Stephens McLaurin; son Freddy and wife Cheryl; son Terry and wife DeeDee; four grandsons, Grant (Emily), Justin, Cole (Alexis) and Channing (Meriwether) and three great grandsons, Fletcher, Easton and Cade.
Eunice Stephen McLaurin, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at The Charlotte Assisted Living and Memory Care.
Colon and Eunice were members of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Erwin, NC. They loved traveling around the world but North Carolina was home. During the summers you could find them in the mountains at “Down By the River’ campground where Colon enjoyed fishing, hiking and making new friends and Eunice was usually curled up on the swing reading a book.
Colon served on the Vestry and was Junior Warden for four years at St. Stephens. He was a member of the Neill S. Steward Masonic Lodge #556 where he received the 60-year Diamond Jubilee Award, the Veterans Emblem Award and Mason of the Year Award in 2009. Colon was also a member of the Erwin Chamber of Commerce where he received the excellence award and the Barbara Norris Memorial Award. He was a senior and longtime member of the Erwin Historical Society. He retired from Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War.
Eunice also worked at Carolina Telephone and Telegraph for a few years. She was an active member of the Eastern Star Organization and a volunteer at Good Hope Hospital in Erwin. She loved being a part of the garden club and they owned and operated a bed and breakfast, “The Erwin Manor” in Erwin for many years.
In their final weeks they both were cared for by Hospice.
A service to celebrate their lives will be held on Thursday, April 18 at 11:00 am in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
