Gene Darnell, 93, of Pineville, died on March 13, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend.

He was born on July 7, 1919, to Mollie Cole and J.C. Darnell in Pineville, NC. Gene worked at Cone Mills for 45 years and attended West Mecklenburg Baptist Church.

He was a WW II veteran who served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Gene is survived by his daughters, Emogene “Puddin” Darnell and Donna and husband James Hinson; grandchildren, Andy Lewis and wife Kathy Beck, Taj and husband Chris Orr; great grandchildren, Dakota and Mason Lewis, and Aden and Ayan Orr. Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Darnell.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at McEwen Funeral Service, Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC. A funeral service will follow at 1pm in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow in Flint Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Lester Bledsoe will officiate.
