Esmeta Patreka Turner

Esmeta Patreka Grinnell-Turner was born in Gibbs Town, Water Lane Jamaica, West Indies on November 2, 1955. She was the fourth of ten children. She turned her life over to the Lord on June 9, 2019 at the age of 63.

Esmeta attended Alley All-Age School then Race Course Primary in Clarendon, Jamaica. She migrated to the United States on October 31, 1974, where she attended Erasmus High School and obtained her High School diploma. She worked at Jesco in Manhattan, NY for several years. She then found her passion working with children as a nanny for the Shapiro Family whom loved her like their own family.

In 1977, she met the love of her life John Turner. Together they raised three children Michael, Tari and Dale. They lived in Brooklyn, NY for 20 years until they moved into their first home in Islandia, NY. Esmeta continued to work with children at Tutor Time as a Head Teacher for over 10 Years. Finally settling in Charlotte, NC in 2006 until her passing.

Esmeta was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Avinell Grinnell, son Gerren who died at infancy and niece Cami Joy Grinnell.

Left to mourn her loss is her husband John of forty three years of marriage; her sons Michael, Dale and daughter Tari; daughters-in-law Samantha and Erica and son-in-law Shaun; grandchildren Azahane, Kaela, Jaiden, Brendall, Makinzie, Ashton, Landon, Lela-Rose and one on the way; siblings Lovina, Warren, Palmeto, Donovan, Lorna, Maureen, Yvonne, Collin and Dahlia; sisters-in-law Velma, Gloria, Karen and Debbie; brother-in-law Tony. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Esmeta "Prim Rose" will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was fun, loving, and a caring person with a big heart. She was the neighborhood mom. She will be missed tremendously. But her memories live on inside of us all.

Visitation for Esmeta is schedule for Friday, June 21, 2019 from 5 pm to 9 pm at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park located at 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.

A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10 am. with the burial to immediately follow.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Esmeta "Prim Rose" life at the reception at Rameses Temple located at 4919 Beaties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216 on the 2nd floor following the burial.
