Erica Nicole Metts

She was born on June 16, 1985 in Charlotte to Paula Metts (née Christenbury) and Eric W. Metts.

As a native Charlottean, Erica attended local schools, namely Coulwood Middle School and West Mecklenburg High School, where she eventually graduated with the class of 2003. Naturally beautiful, popular, and friendly, she was scouted by the modeling agency Barbizon Ice when she was in middle school. She enjoyed cheerleading during her freshman year of high school, and throughout all her years in school she was always a great student who made good grades.

Following high school, Erica pursued a few different career interests, trying things out until she found a field she truly loved. She dabbled in the medical, pharmacy, and veterinary fields before she discovered her true passion was pet grooming. Her grooming career began in 2005, and over the years, she worked for Grateful Pets Boarding & Grooming and PetSmart.

A member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Erica was a believer. She loved God, gave without hesitation during offering, and often encouraged her friends and family to attend church.

Erica had many varied hobbies throughout her life, notably enjoying nearly all things outdoors. She loved fishing, gardening, swimming, and days spent at the lake. She was also a huge music fan; she loved playing guitar and admired many guitar artists, and she enjoyed many concerts with family and friends over the years.

Erica’s favorite way to spend her time, however, was with her two children. One of her favorite pastimes was going all out with Halloween décor, which her kids got a kick out of and she thoroughly enjoyed too. She was an outgoing and involved Mom, and she loved her kids more than anything.

Erica’s big heart and natural compassion were evident in all areas of her life. She rescued countless strays and would regularly go out of her way to help others when they were in need. She was a kind and caring free-spirit, a daddy’s girl, and the best sister. Her beautiful soul will be sorely missed by all.

Those left to honor Erica’s memory include her parents, Eric and Paula Metts; her beautiful children, Kingston Wilcox and Madilyn Wilcox; her sisters, Renee Hunter (Steven) and Jazmine Metts; her aunts, Phyllis Fairlay (Jim), Sharon Metts , and Annette Middlesworth (Bill); and her special great-aunt, Peggy Jones; as well as numerous treasured cousins, other family members, and friends.

Erica has been reunited in Heaven with her grandparents, H.W. and Irene Metts, Paul and Margaret Christenbury, and Alice Louise Garlick; and her uncles, Craig Christenbury and Harvey Metts.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 5:00pm until 9:00pm on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Drive in Charlotte.

The funeral service is to be conducted at 2:00pm on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 in the Paul Helton Chapel at the funeral home.

The burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Erica’s name to the Humane Society of Charlotte.
