Belmont - Emma (Em) Sloope Able Rogers went to be with Jesus peacefully February 7 at the age of 93 with family by her side. Em was born on August 26,1923 in Taylorsville, N.C. to the late William Eli and Beulah Mae Sloope.
She is preceded in death by husbands Sidney (Dick) Able and William (Bill) Rogers and sister Juanita Campbell and brothers John and Howard Sloope.
She is survived by children, Sandra Able Lyden and husband John of Charlotte; Phil Able and wife Debbie of Charlotte and Ramie Able Ackley and husband Stephen of Woodbridge, Conn. She was "Nanny" to grandchildren Kelly Lyden McDermott and husband Ben of Charlotte and John Lyden and fiancee Lina Zuluagas of Huntersville and great grandchildren Ben, Max and Jake McDermott.
Em was a wonderful, loving, supportive and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, teaching about her deep faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and witnessing to so many people she met, even complete strangers. She was an active, dedicated and generous member of many churches. "Mama Em" as many called her was a mother figure to many loving extended family and friends. She had a fabulous sense of humor with many hilarious stories and memories. She raised her children with a strong value about right and wrong and the importance of education and a strong work ethic. She loved all animals and especially dogs.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1:00p.m. Feb. 11 at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Dr., Charlotte, N.C., with a reception to follow at the McDermott home at 4423 Andrew James Dr., Charlotte. All are welcome to attend. Pastor Chris Diciacco will officiate the ceremony.
