Jack Whitman, of Charlotte, NC and Blowing Rock, NC passed away Tuesday, December 20th, 2011 at his home in Blowing Rock. He was born on September 29, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Emil John and Helen Whitman.
Jack graduated from his beloved UNC-Chapel Hill in 1963. Immediately after finishing school, he went to work for North Carolina National Bank in Charlotte designing trust systems. In 1970, he co-founded Trust Management Systems. After selling TMS, he served as president of Goldman, Sachs Funds Group in Chicago. In 1992, after returning to Charlotte, he founded an investment advisory firm specializing in corporate retirement and individual account management.
Jack was a member of The Blowing Rock Country Club and former member of Charlotte Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy; two sons, Spence and Alex; daughter-in-law, Leslie; sisters, Helene and Marion; and a brother, Bill. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Byers, Lilly and Spence, who were the light of his life.
Visitation will be held at the home of Spence and Leslie Whitman at 2421 Forest Drive on Thursday evening, December 22, 2011, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.
A service to celebrate the life of Jack Whitman will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 23rd at First Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Kirk Hall officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment will be private.
