Eleanor Josephine McKnight Ward

Mrs. Eleanor McKnight Ward, 80, of Charlotte, passed to her rest on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at her home with family at her side. Born on May 27, 1935, in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late Everett J. McKnight and Clara Avery McKnight. On September 21, 1952 Eleanor married Charles W. Ward Sr. who passed away April 7, 1994.

Eleanor was a graduate of Central High School. She attended North Carolina Business School. She worked at Pitney Bose Administrative office for several years and she retired after 36 years from Interstate Johnson Lane Brokerage Firm, now Wells Fargo, where she managed their Dividends Department.

She was an active lifelong member of the Charlotte Central Church of God and was actively involved in the PrimeTimers/PRISM Sunday School Class. She loved worshiping God, lived life to the fullest, volunteered her time to help with anything, she LOVED cards (Canasta) & traveling (Cruises were her favorites), going to musicals, plays, working the NC polling booths, and most of all just hanging out with the numerous special friends whom she called family for many years.

Mrs. Ward is survived by her sons and daughters: Sydna Taylor, Cheryl Littlejohn, John Ward, and Robert Ward; two brothers: Earl and Edward McKnight; and the many grandchildren whom she totally adored; and beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ward was predeceased by a son, Charles W. Ward Jr., who died March 10, 2016, a brother Everett J. McKnight Jr., and a very close Friend Dick Wright.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Charlotte Central Church of God, Main Sanctuary 5301 Sardis Road, Charlotte 28270 from 12:00 until 2:00 PM. Following the receiving of friends, the Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 PM with the Reverend David Douglas officiating. Eleanor will be laid to rest with her husband and son in the Hollywood Cemetery, Gastonia, Wednesday, May 18, 2016.
