She was born in Hubbard, Ohio to Dr. Donald and Alma Gross and was the youngest of five children. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Gross and Don Gross and her sisters, Mary (Mimi) Devine and Martha (Pinky) Manning.
Susie lived her young life in Ohio before attending Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY graduating with a degree in Elementary Education. She spent her senior year abroad studying at the Sorbonne in Paris, which was one of her most fond experiences.
Upon her return from college, Susie met and married the love of her life, John. Their first few years of marriage included several moves until they settled in Charlotte.
Susie enjoyed participating in many social clubs throughout Charlotte, including Carmel Country Club, the Montibello garden club, and the Sweet Adeline’s. Susie’s faith was important to her, and she was involved in many groups and ministries at St Matthew Catholic Church. She fiercely loved games,especially Trivial Pursuit as she was a winning contestant on the television game show “Jeopardy!”.
Susie also loved having a house full of people. Entertaining was one of her strongest suits and she always ensured everyone enjoyed themselves.
She was preceded in death by John Prosser, her husband of 54 years, and leaves behind three children and their spouses- Nancy (Thom) Knowles of Gold Hill, NC, Sally (Chris) Ware and John (Shannon) Prosser, Jr of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren. Katy Knowles, Vivian Ware, Taylor Prosser and Sydney Prosser all of Charlotte, NC as well as many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday September 1st, 2022 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28277.
