Edward A. Dines, age 98, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Kennedy Township, PA, entered into eternal rest on May 30, 2016. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 22, 1917 to the late Louis and Harriet Dines. Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marie (Williams) Dines. He attended the University of Pittsburgh with an athletic scholarship for pole vaulting where he also received his Masters degree in both Mining and Civil Engineering. He was a professor of Mining Engineering for 25 years, where he served as chairman of the Civil Engineering Department. He also worked in several municipalities as a Civil Engineer. Upon moving to Charlotte, NC, he worked as a Realtor. Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Edward is survived by his three children, Carole (Dennis) Laird, William (Sandra) Dines, and Alan Dines, eight grandchildren, Laura (Andrew), Susan, Julie (Matthew), John (Gabriela), Michael, Terrell (Shelby), Christian, and Samuel, and twelve great-grandchildren. He is survived by one brother James. He was preceded in death by brothers George, Ernest and by his sister Helen. Edward enjoyed playing golf, spending time at the beach, gardening, and making new friends. Friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 2 at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, June 3 at Carmel Presbyterian, 2048 Carmel Road, Charlotte. Burial will conclude at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carmel Presbyterian Church, Charlotte.
