Born in Charlotte on April 17, 1930 to Charles Durwood Godfrey and Bertha Lee Pangle Godfrey, Edith was educated in the Mecklenburg County school system and graduated from Oakhurst High School.
Edith worked for Chadbourn Hosiery Company and eventually retired from Duke Energy after eighteen years of service. She also served as Chaplain, Vice President, President and Board Chairperson for Duke Energy Retirees, Charlotte chapter. Edith had a reputation as an active volunteer with the company.
Church life at Oakhurst Baptist Church was very important to Edith as she served on numerous committees, assisted as prayer partner at Vacation Bible School. She also held the office as President of the Winson/Shining Lights Sunday school class, President and Program Chairperson for Young at Heart Club and Building and Grounds along with serving on the Pastor Search Committee.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Charles Landon Caldwell and cherished sisters Aline, Polly, Bobbie and Nancy.
Left to mourn her loss are children Chuck Caldwell, Jeff (Cindy) Caldwell, Susan Caldwell and Teresa (Larry) Adams; grandsons Scott Adams, Eric (Angelica) Adams, Ryan (Ashley) Caldwell and Josh Caldwell and great grandchildren Lily, Landon and Lauren Adams and Kinsley and Grayson Caldwell.
The family will greet friends at 11am on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Oakhurst Baptist Church located at 5037 Monroe Road in Charlotte. Funeral service to begin at 12 noon followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
