Born and raised in Charlotte, NC and a 1941 graduate from Charlotte Technical High School, Earl served the US Army Air Corps as a bomber pilot in WWII and was recalled during the Korean conflict. While an aviation cadette, on October 27th, 1943 Earl married Doris Evelyn Russell, to whom he remained committed for over 70 years until his death. After his military service he was employed by Central Motor Lines in managerial positions in the sales and operations departments for 25 years. He then worked in sales and management positions in a family moving and storage company, Russell Transfer, Inc. As a retiree Earl completed the course work and earned a NC real estate license and worked as a commercial real estate broker for several years.
Earl also served in the Lions Club and taught the senior high school class at Belmont Park United Methodist Church for 25 years. He participated in the Charlotte Toastmasters organization in order to enhance his communication skills. Earl developed and hosted a Wednesday night fun night for the senior high church youth and for many years supervised an annual summer weekend trip to Myrtle Beach, SC for them.
Earl loved to play golf; he was a charter member at Carolina Golf Club, where he served two terms as club president. Though he never completed a college degree, Earl prided himself in keeping his mind sharp through reading and working daily newspaper crossword puzzles. As a parent he worked hard to support each of his three children in earning a college degree, and he continued that commitment by ensuring that his four grandchildren had the same advantage.
A memorial service is being planned by the Earl White Family for a future date.
In lieu of flowers a contribution in Earl’s memory is encouraged for the scholarship fund at the college or university of your choice.
McEwen Funeral Service is handling the arrangements for the White Family.
