Born in Columbus Ohio on September 15, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Donovan Miller Birdsall and Helen Nutt Olemacher.
She attended Ohio State University where she met her husband Thomas Hampton Wilson who preceded her in death in 1977. They relocated to his hometown of Columbia, SC where they raised two children.
She received her Masters in Librarianship at the University of SC and continued her career as the school librarian at Forest Lake Elementary in Columbia, SC, until her retirement in 1990.
In Columbia, she was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where she was the president of the Episcopal Church Women, and active in the Altar Guild, Vestry, and choir. She loved gardening, music, reading, crosswords, and playing bridge with her friends.
After her retirement, she remained busy as a volunteer with Hospice and serving as a docent at the SC State museum. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid traveler.
She relocated to Sun City outside Fort Mill, SC where she loved her new friends and neighbors in the active community and stayed completely busy with numerous passions and pursuits. She also became a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She was a lifelong learner and her most recent achievement was using Facetime on her IPad which she enjoyed for communicating with her grandchildren.
Dot is survived by her children, Carolyn W. Maconi (Steve), of Annapolis, MD and Thomas (Tom) H. Wilson, Jr. (Laurie) of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, John Maconi, Caryn Maconi, Sterling Wilson, and Sheppard Wilson; and two sisters, Shirley Smalley and Nancy Curran.
Please join the family for a memorial service and reception at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 501 Pine Street, Fort Mill, SC 29715 where services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday May 30.
