She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas S. Waller, whom she met while she was at Peace College in Raleigh, NC. Celanese moved the young couple to Mexico City, where Dot really wanted to make a difference. Among other things, she was involved as an officer in the Mexico City Junior League, as well as the American Hospital Auxiliary and school for the blind. Dot was her daughter's Girl Scout troop leader. Dot and Tom served as co-presidents of the American High School in Mexico City. After 13 years in Mexico, Dot and Tom moved the family to Charlotte. They moved to Southminster, where the staff and residents became her second family. The family is grateful for their and Olga's care.
Dot spent the last 20 years of her life blooming where she was planted--she especially loved "working" on Sunday in the health unit and the Tuesday chapel services.
She is survived by her two daughters and their families: Dorothy (Dee-Dee) Waller Harris and son-in-law Cameron Harris, grandchildren, Gary Waller Harris, and Patricia Harris Bostwick and her husband John Bostwick IV, and great-grandchildren, John Cameron Bostwick and Magnolia Waller Bostwick; daughter, Patricia Waller Barrier and son-in-law Jimmy Ray Barrier, grandchildren, Charles Walker Harris, Jr. and wife Kelly, Bonnie Harris Grigg and husband David, Sarah Buening Harris, and Kjell De Bearn Schei, and great-grandchildren, David and Sarah Grigg, and Hannah, Caroline and Walker Harris.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2014 at Southminster. A reception for family and friends will follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Southminster Endowment Fund, 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
