She was born one of twelve children on June 29, 1919 to the late Millis Young Wright and Velma Mehaffey Wright in Canton, NC.
Dorothy “Dot” worked as a waitress for over 40 years for New China (downtown Charlotte), Nixon Bros. Steakhouse, Heart of Charlotte and Oriental Restaurant.
She had a passion for cooking, clipping coupons, yard sales and watching Atlanta Braves baseball and Tar Heel basketball.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Marshall C. Starnes.
She is survived by her daughters, Gwen W. Gilder of Charlotte, NC, Lana S. Warlick (Robert) of Jacksonville, NC and Myra S. Pendry of Stallings, NC; five grandchildren, Warren Gilder (Candy), Jason Pendry (Christy) and Jessica P. Dunham (Aaron), Bobby Warlick (Patty), Jessica W. Lawrence, eleven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 29th of September, 2016 at Sunset Memory Gardens.
