Dorothy Mae Moxley Pence

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. – Mrs. Dorothy Mae Moxley Pence, 87, formerly of Charlotte, N.C., died on Thursday, September 19, 2013. She was born on June 19, 1926, in Damascus, Maryland to Frances Mount Moxley and Windsor Moxley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Martin L. Pence, Jr.

She is survived by her five children, Joanne Pence Gooley Payne of New Bern, N.C.; Martin L. Pence, III, of Shelby, N.C.; Gregory M. Pence of Sunset Beach, N.C.; Frances Virginia Pence Jones of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Steven E. Pence of Fort Mill, S.C. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Dot was retired after a long career in the restaurant business. In Charlotte she worked at the Luau, Ivey’s Tulip Room and for 17 years at the Chateau restaurant.

She was a devoted and long -time member of Sedgefield United Methodist Church (formerly St. Paul’s United Methodist Church) in Charlotte. Visitation will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Sedgefield United Methodist Church in Charlotte, followed by a service at the Church at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
