Jean was born on July 10, 1930 in Charlotte, NC the youngest child of the late David Lee Newell and Mary Sanders Newell. She graduated from Oakhurst High School in 1949. She worked at Wachovia Bank for many years and over 50 years as a legal secretary. Up until 2 years ago she was still working one day a week for attorney Robert Blythe.
Jean was a very special person who cared about others and always remembered everyone’s birthday with a card or phone call. She had a beautiful smile and was always complimentary to those around her. She had a flair for decorating and fashion. Jean was a great role model for all of her family and was a most gracious southern lady. We feel her loss and will miss her humor and wisdom but most of all her love for all of us. She was a really sweet person.
She loved her church, her family and her neighbors in Locust who were her extended family. Most of all she loved the Lord and lived her life giving to others. She was a member of Midwood Baptist Church and prior to that was a long time member of Whiting Ave Baptist Church.
Jean was adored and loved by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who survive her. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by 6 sisters, Lila Stutts, Vi Turner, Lou Lingle, Alice “Hickey” Fox, Bonnie Fisher, Annie “Bit” Warren, 1 brother, Jack Newell, 3 nieces, 1 nephew and Charlie Bailes who was very dear to her heart for many years.
