Dorothy Mae Nealy passed away on September 20, 2013 at home with her grandchildren by her side. She was born April 8, 1932 in Laurinburg, NC to the late Lottie Mae and Neal Britt. Dot was the eldest of four children. Early in life, Dot began to show her independent spirit while growing up in the Hoskins Mills Community of Charlotte. It was in that neighborhood during the hard times of life that Dot learned the meaning of hard work and determination, two things she instilled deep into her following generations and lived by, until she took her final breath. After finishing school and beginning a family, Dot began her career in sales that took her from working at A&P in the 1970’s to winning Regional and National awards selling HODA into the 1980’s. Dot found her true sales calling when she began working at Allen Tate in the late 1980’s. This led to a successful real estate career and the making of Dot Nealy Real Estate. She loved selling and managing her rental homes, and did so until her health would no longer allow her to do so, at the age of 80. Above all, Dot found her calling in 1979 when she became a grandmother, a role she treasured with all her heart. She loved to take her grandchildren everywhere with her! There will be many memories of beach trips, Carowinds trips, and her favorite vacation spot, Florida trips to cherish for years to come.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Edison Nealy, brother, Neal “Ervin” Britt, sister and best friend, Martha Hollins and trusted companion, pit bull, Cody.
Left to cherish her memories and live out her dreams are: brother, Roger Britt and wife Becky of Denver, NC; sons, Michael O. Nealy, Sr. of Ft. Myers, FL and Richard Nealy, Sr. of Ormond Beach, FL; grandchildren, Michael Nealy, Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL, Rick Nealy, Dana Buie and husband, Robbie of Charlotte, NC and great grandchildren, Aubry Nealy of Ft. Myers, FL, Sean, Elyssa, Bradley Nealy and RJ Buie of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are many special sisters in laws, nieces, nephews, family and friends from over the years.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00pm on Monday, September 23, 2013 at McEwen Derita Chapel 6300 Mallard Creek Rd. Charlotte, NC 28262. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at University City United Methodist Church 3835 West WT Harris Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28269 with burial to follow at Forest Lawn West cemetery.
