Dorothy B. Merritt

Mrs. Merritt was born on July 24, 1929 in Winston Salem, NC to the late Bert E. and Oleta Blevins. She retired from Duke Power Company as an Executive Secretary. She was a member of New Hope Christian Church in Winston Salem and East Calvary Church in Charlotte. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Merritt.

Dorothy was a very talented pianist and organist and enjoyed playing for the church. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Her favorite place was the beach where she always said she felt close to God. She never met a stranger and was loved by so many friends.

She is survived by her three daughters, Lynda S. Merritt, Denise Merritt and Patricia Jolly all of Mint Hill, NC, step-sister, Linda Reed of Winston Salem, NC and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, December 15, 2011, from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at McEwen –Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd, Mint Hill, NC, immediately followed by her graveside service at 2:00pm at Sunset Memory Gardens.

The family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful staff at Carmel Hills Retirement Center for their loving care. We would also like to express our thanks to the staff at Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region for their special care and support.
