She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lominac; and son- in- law, William "Johnny" Lominac, Charlotte; one sister, Ruth McCoury, and husband Ted, Elizabethton, TN; her brother, Eugene Sparks, Johnson City, TN; two grandchildren, Jamie Lominac, Charlotte, and Darlene Overton and husband, Michael, of Nashville, NC; five great grandchildren, Tyler, Lindsay, Jonathan, Caleb, and Thad (Little Man); and several nieces and nephews.
She was a precious lady who found immense pleasure in caring for others.
She loved flowers, plants, animals of all kinds, and especially her pet poodle "Baby".
She loved to read, bargain shop, and sea-shelling with her sister, Ruth, at the beach.
Dorothy, was born in Johnson City, TN, to the late Robert Sparks
and Maggie Vance Sparks, of Avery County, NC. She graduated from
Crossnore Business School where she met her beloved, late husband of 57 years,
Thad. She worked in Charlotte for many years with Home
Finance Group, Barclay's American, J. A. Jones , Kendall Mfg. She retired from Coats American.
She was a member of the Waxhaw Chapter of Eastern Star and home bound member
Of Derita Presbyterian Church. In the 80’s, Dot and Thad had enjoyed square
dancing as members of the Boots 'N Slippers, Swingin' Pines, and Swinging Saint’s Dancing Clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maggie Sparks; her
husband, Thad S. Hyatt; daughter, Juanita Johnson, of Harrisburg; and two sisters,
Sylvia Francis, of Johnson City, TN, and Virginia Smith, of Columbus, NC.
Her family will receive friends on Monday, June 11, 2012, from 7-8 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens, 1504 W. Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte. Her son-in-law, Michael Overton, will officiate.
Floral tributes are welcome or memorials can be made to the family for disbursement to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, Alzheimer's Association, or Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Charlotte.
The family wishes to extend heart felt gratitude to the Presbyterian family of nurses, doctors, and caregivers, especially in the ICU and Harris Hospice. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
