Do was raised in West Lafayette, Indiana. She attended Purdue University, became a member of Chi Omega Sorority, and was co-editor of the Purdue University Yearbook, "Debris". While at Purdue she met and married the love of her life, Leslie E. Fleck, Jr. on June 10, 1944 and graduated in 1945.
Do and Les moved from Elkhart, Indiana to Charlotte in 1959, where she worked in several different secretarial positions prior to joining the staff of The Charlotte News and Observer in 1967 as secretary to the general manager, and later promoted to Public Relations Manager in 1982, coordinating many events there, including "The Charlotte Observer Marathon" for twelve years; the All Star Scholars; the Scholastic Art Competition; Chairperson of the Art Committee and the Spelling Bee; retiring in 1989. After retirement, Do continued to work at the 'Welcome Center" of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport for ten years.
With her passion of art and gardening, she was involved in many community organizations, including Garden Lovers of Mountainbrook, Charlotte Council of Garden Clubs of the Min Museum, the Gift Shops of the Mint Museum and the Mint Museum of Art and Crafts Design. Do was awarded a lifelong membership of Garden Club of North Carolina. She was also a member of Mountainbrook Swim Club, Charlotte Public Relations Society, and Olde Providence Swim and Racquet Club. She has been a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church since 1959.
Do was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, David Heckard.
She is survived by her husband, Leslie E. Fleck; daughter, Julie and son-in-law Eddie Corder of Mt. Airy, NC; son, Douglas and daughter-in-law Beth Fleck of Clover, SC; grandsons, Adam and Ben Linderman; sister-in-law, Virginia Fleck; brother-in-law, Robert Fleck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The emptiness in our hearts will be filled with the memories of her in our lives.
A Service of Joy will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21st at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 E. Morehead St., Charlotte. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
